How Did Midlothian Get its Name?

The family that founded this town came from two villages in Scotland named “West-Lothian” and “East- Lothian” so they decided on “Mid-Lothian” for their fresh start. This is the most authentic for the 18th century. The amount of history and opportunities here definitely make up for its mundane name.

The History

The Wooldridge family moved and settled here in 1736 from Scotland, enhancing the town’s quality and boosting its economy and diversity. 1709 marks the first time coal was commercially mined and sold for the population. The coal was so good that it started to ship all over the east coast. 

Such a rich history entices people to visit the ageless coal town. There are historical homes and places that take you back and make you feel like time has stood still.

Midlothian is located in Chesterfield County in, Virginia. You can find this community south of the James River. It is easiest to drive around Midlothian, and you can catch the train in Richmond for faster ground travel.
